Could this be the tidiest and most flexible car charger on the market?
JoyRoom have created a simple and well put together car charger, providing built-in retractable charging cables as well as the more traditional USB options, but this one goes a step further with a design meant to flex to the particular set up of your car…. literally!

What do you get?
This car charger from JoyRoom give a 4 in 1 charging solution for your car, with a device that plugs into your 12v socket, or for people of my age, the cigarette lighter. I haven’t seen an actual cigarette lighter for years, but that’s always what it will be to me.

Built into the charger are two retractable cables, each around 75cm long, which I found to be plenty for my in-car use, but I suppose that might depend a little on the set up of your particular car. The first is a 2.4amp lightning cable, and the second a 30w USB-C cable, giving you built-in charging options for the vast majority of your devices in a very neat and tidy package, leaving no loose cables floating around the cockpit, something which I really appreciate!
In addition there are two further USB ports, a 2,4amp USB-A and a 3amp USB-C, giving you that total of 4 charging options all from your 12v in-car supply. That’s quite a lot of devices to charge on the go in the car, even for a tech nerd such as myself!
So, what sets it apart from all the rest?
I’m not going to say that I’ve timed the speed of charge of my devices with different numbers of things attached to the 4 in 1 charger, but I can tell you that I tried plugging 4 devices in at the same time (as well as two further devices plugged into my car’s built in ports, and all of those devices made happy beeping noises and started charging happily at the same time. More charging options than I’ve ever had in the car before!
In addition to the sheer number of devices you can charge here there’s the design and form factor of the device itself. The 4 in 1, while being plastic in construction, feels really solidly built and likely to last a good long time. The build quality looks at home in the front of my Nissan Leaf. I know – it’s not exactly a Bugatti, but it is a nice place to sit and this charger feels at home in that setting as I’m sure it would in most vehicles.

…and it’s that most vehicles point that makes this device stand out from the crowd. The JoyRoom 4 in 1 charger is able to pivot from the 12v charger, with very nearly 180 degrees of adjustability, which lets you keep the head of the charger out of the way of other controls in your car, but also, keeping it in the tidiest, best looking position. I’m not an enormous fan of clutter in the front of the car, but this really doesn’t feel that way!

I have to say, this charger has gone down pretty well with the family. In my previous set up, I had charging for my own devices neatly set up to be as inconspicuous as possible while keeping my own stuff working through the day, but this JoyRoom device has brought a simple way to keep everyone else happy too without having all sorts of messy cables everywhere. The retractable cables are just long enough for a passenger to comfortably keep using their device while charging, albeit it can take a couple of goes to get comfortable with how to get the cord to retract.

Stop messing me around – is it any good?
Yeah. Yeah it is! This is a really genuinely useful device for anyone who regularly carries passengers, particularly teenage ones who get very grumpy if their devices run out of battery! It’s a neat and tidy way to add a significant amount of charging options to your car and whilst it’s not a small device, it goes nicer in my centre console storage if I want it out of the way, but it looks nice enough that I don’t mind keeping it in place.
The ability to adjust how the charger sits in the 12v socket, means you can keep it out of the way of other controls, keeping everything tidy, so the only real complaint I can find (and I’m being fairly picky here) is that next time I upgrade my kid’s phone, we probably won’t want that lightning cable anymore and being built in, there’s no option to change it up for an extra USB-C. Not really a complaint, just the reality that as cable needs change, you might end up with more/less use of what’s offered here.
At time of writing the price hasn’t been confirmed, but looking through the other JoyRoom devices, it looks likely to be somewhere in the middle or if anything, more affordable end of the scale. Given the 4 charging options and the flexible design, I think that makes this charger a really good option for your consideration!
