The EKSA E5 BT Gaming headset is an affordable headset solution that offers compatibility with a variety of gaming hardware. It’s a competitive space; compatibility isn’t always as simple and straightforward as it might seem, so have EKSA managed to hit the trio of affordability, compatibility, and overall quality? Let’s find out.

ProsCons
Good Audio and Mic quality
Light and comfortable
Great Price
Little cheap feeling
Not great materials

Design and Build Quality

The first impression for any product I use comes from the materials and the weight, and this is a light headset. Really light. Now, I don’t think headsets like this should be all flash metal, and lord knows you won’t appreciate weighty ‘premium’ materials when it’s pressing down on you from above, but the EKSA E5’s plastic build is concerningly light. Putting it on offers so much flex that it feels fragile and I worry about how long it will last with regular use. I can’t imagine it surviving a teenager’s bedroom between rage-inducing sessions of Fortnite or EAFC that’s for sure. The included USB dongle and USB-C to 3.5mm cable are nicely finished, and the overall ‘tech style’ design looks nice enough, though again, the cheaper plastic doesn’t look particularly appealing to my eye.

Audio Performance

When it comes to audio, I had a pretty good time across the board. At this price point I was be pretty impressed with the quality overall. Everything sounded crisp and clean from the 50mm drivers, 3D audio travelled nicely, and I never heard any real issues. I spent some time using the headset wired into an Xbox Series X and my Mac mini, and then on PlayStation 5 wirelessly using the dongle, and at no point did I feel the sound let me down or experience any kind of lag or delay.

Of course, in this day and age, it’s not just about how well you can hear the game. It’s just as important to have the game. and other players, hear you. Playing Helldivers II, my fellow patriots said I sounded fine. There weren’t any amazed “wows” because of the crystal clarity of my dulcet tones or anything, but they said they could hear me nice and clearly throughout our play sessions. The only time we ran into a problem was when I popped off for a brew, returned to the game, and forgot to pivot the microphone down, but that’s very much a me problem folks.

So when it comes to sound going in and sound out, the EKSA E5 is a winner on both fronts, especially at this price.

Comfort and Battery

I found the EKSA E5 to be easy to set up and pair, and comfortable to wear. As mentioned at the start, it’s a worryingly light and potentially breakable product, but this does make it super light to wear. The memory foam ear cups were nice and comfortable throughout my review time, and at no point after the initial charge did I have to worry about the battery too much, so that was impressive too.

Conclusion

It’s difficult to write reviews like these sometimes. I’d love to offer some kind of dramatic ‘con’ or mind-blowing ‘pro’ for the EKSA E5 Gaming Headset, but in truth, there isn’t anything like that here. As I write, it is available for just under $50, and at that price it does everything it needs to really well. Wired or Wireless, Computer or Console, it always performed , offered me good-quality audio, and made sure my teammates could hear me clearly. The design overall might be a little gratuitous or too ‘gamer’ for some users, and the materials aren’t great, but at this price, it does everything I expect it to, and that should be the biggest pro of all.
